Transforming our Transitional Kinder and Kindergarten Curriculum

Transitional Kindergarten and Preschool Families,

The District is in the midst of profound changes to the Transitional Kinder and Kindergarten curriculum to better align with state mandates. These changes will take a few months to implement, and in order for us to do a better job at aligning the changes with our students’ needs, we need your support and cooperation.

The first step is the selection of a curriculum. The District will pilot two different curriculums: one is called Teaching Strategies and the other is Alisal Units of Study

All TK and Preschool teachers will pilot Teaching Strategies curriculum Jan. 19-30. Alisal Units of Study will be piloted March 9-April 12

These pilot units will help us determine which materials are best to help us achieve desired goals, as determined by the State, for students ages 3-5. Materials and curriculum must include promotion of socio-emotional learning, inclusion of play-based instruction and be appropriate for the developmental stage of the student.

The materials will be available for review from January 19–30 at the Buckhorn Early Learning Center, 1081 Buckhorn Dr., Salinas. The center is open 8:30am-4:30pm, Monday through Friday. Please come by so you can take a look at the materials and ask questions about implementation.

The curriculum information will also be available on the Alisal Union School District website for families who prefer to access it online.

After viewing the materials in person or online, you will have the opportunity to complete a survey to share your thoughts

We value your input and look forward to partnering with you to ensure we provide the highest-quality materials and instruction for our youngest learners.
